Andrew Maxam, will be guiding a walk around historic pubs in Birmingham City Centre on Tuesday, 14th June, 2016 as part of Birmingham’s annual “Hidden Spaces” events. Andy is a local author of books on Birmingham history and has written three on the City’s pubs. He has been Pubs Officer and Pub Preservation Officer for Birmingham CAMRA.
The idea is to sample half a pint/a soft drink in each of the pubs listed and Andy will talk about the pubs visited and some of those that Brum has lost. Please note that drinks at veneus (other than OJS) are NOT included in the booking fee.
The walk starts at 6pm adjacent to New Street Station/Grand Central at “The Shakespeare” in Lower Temple Street. A member of the Hidden Spaces team will be there to greet you and introduce Andy. Enjoy a quick drink before moving just up the street to the Grade II listed “Trocadero”. The walk will proceed up Cherry Street and pass the Cathedral to another Nicholson’s gem, “The Old Contemptibles”, before carrying on the the flamboyant “Old Royal”. Finally, Andy will guide you to the glorious former banking hall that is now 'The Old Joint Stock' where our friends at Fullers are generously providing a short “ale tasting” at around 8pm.
