Our friends at West Midlands have put together another open day, this time to celebrate the history of Canterbury Road Police Station in Perry Barr before it closes. The open day is Friday 24 November.

If you want tickets go to their Eventbrite page now and grab yourself a slot.

Here's the description of the event:

'After serving the local police for over 110 years, Canterbury Road Police Station is due to be sold as part of essential estate rationalisation plans, in order to redirect expensive running and maintenance fees back into frontline policing.

The Police Museum have been given the chance to allow the public access to see inside the station for one day only before it is sold.

There will be some items from the Police Museum on display, pictures of Victorian prisoners, some uniform to try on and a selection of items from our shop.
Unfortunately due to the age of the building there is no access for mobility impaired guests - there are approximately 3 steps before the main door and a flight of stairs if you wish to view the upstairs rooms of the building.

Access is gained through the rear of the building - via Thornbury Road. There is no access via the frontage on Canterbury Road. The recommended route is to follow the A4040 off the A34 roundabout, take a right at the traffic lights down Stoneleigh Road and then right onto Thornbury Road. The building is near the end of the road on the left - through the large metal gates which will be open. Nearby Earlsbury Gardens is another route to access Canterbury Road - we recommend you avoid this road between 2.30 and 4pm whilst the nearby schools are finishing for the day.

There is a small car park which you can park in, then come to the back door of the building. Please park considerately and do not block other guests. If the car park is full there should be nearby on-street parking available.

All money raised will be used to support the West Midlands Police Heritage Project - which hopes to open a new Police Museum at the Steelhouse Lane Lock-up.

We would love to see your items of police memorabilia or photographs if you have any to show us. Any scanned photographs or items to be donated to the collection would be gratefully received.'
